Established in 1994 by Senate Bill 6220, WSQA is dedicated to making the Pacific Northwest a better place to live, learn and work by helping organizations achieve superior results through the use of the Criteria for Performance Excellence.The WSQA is patterned after the Baldrige National Quality Award and utilizes this model as an internationally recognized standard for performance evaluation and improvement. The WSQA is one of approximately 36 state programs in the nation. There are over 100 performance or business excellence programs around the world.
WSQA educates organizations in performance excellence management and administers the only state awards and recognition program for performance excellence in the Pacific Northwest. We partner with Pacific Northwest organizations dedicated to improving their performance. Our main areas of focus are
WSQA is a non-profit, 501c3 organization that operates with a part time director and over 200 volunteers. Our volunteers represent health care, education, manufacturing, governmental services and small and large service organizations from Washington, Oregon, California, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri and South Carolina, and make up the Board of Directors, examiners, mentors, and panel of judges. This core group of volunteers makes it possible for WSQA to be a successful program.
WSQA conducts third party assessments for applicant organizations. The assessments are conducted by examiner teams and provide detailed feedback by evaluating 1) organizational approaches (processes); 2) the extent to which the approaches are deployed, evaluated/improved, aligned and integrated throughout the organization; and 3) their effectiveness at driving organizational results.
The Washington State Quality Award is awarded to organizations that have demonstrated exceptional performance excellence. These organizations are seen as models for organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest and the nation who seek outstanding results.
